Can I install a SureSeal without professional assistance?

  • Yes! The SureSeal is an easy do-it yourself application and installation. Remove the drain grate, insert the SureSeal, and replace the drain grate. That’s it. See our installation instructions for further information.

Why do floor drains emit odors?

  • In most circumstances a dry “P” trap or broken trap seal is the cause of floor drain odors. The water in the “P” trap creates a seal between the sewer system and the open air and prevents sewer gas and odors from entering work and living spaces.

How does the SureSeal Floor Drain Trap Sealer work?

  • When inserted into the floor drain outlet or strainer, SureSeal creates a physical barrier and acts as a one way valve - Water goes in and the odors stay out.
  • SureSeal is designed to help prevent evaporation in the trap but when evaporation occurs, it prevents the escape of noxious and dangerous sewer gases.

Where can I use the SureSeal?

  • In addition to primarily being used in a restroom or shower floor drain, SureSeal also works well in a variety of floor darin applications including:
    • Outdoor drains
    • Basement drains
    • Water heater drains
    • HVAC condensation drains
    • Maintenance areas
    • Hospitals, schools, homes, historic buildings, hotels, restaurants, and any place where floor drain odors are a problem.

Can SureSeal work in non-floor drain applications?

While SureSeal Products are designed, tested, and certified for use in the drain outlet of an ANSI/ASME A112.6.3 conforming Floor/Shower Drain, they can be successfully used in other applications under certain circumstances. If you want to use SureSeal in other "non-conforming" applications the performance of the product may vary. Make sure to review the installation notes for special installation instructions.

What size floor drains will the SureSeal work with?

  • The SureSeal Inline Trap Sealer can be used with all standard ANSI/ASME A112.6.3 conforming  2”, 3”, and 4” floor drains and in any size floor drain with a 3 ½” or 4” strainer.

Why should I use SureSeal over other chemical-based solutions?

  • SureSeal is a Green product that reduces use of potable water – lowering water bills
  • Reduces waste water flow through sewage treatment plants - increasing existing plant capacity
  • SureSeal is eco-friendly. Unlike chemical solutions, SureSeal introduces no foreign elements into the environment.

How do I determine the size SureSeal I need?

  • SureSeal comes in 4 sizes 2”, 3”, 4”, and the new 3 ½”.  The sizes have been designed and engineered to fit all manufacturers’ standard floor drains.
  • To figure out the proper size, remove the drain grate and locate the drain outlet. Measure the outlet diameter and that’s the size you want to order.
  • If you are unsure or need help call SureSeal at (877) 201-2663 or (253) 564-0624.

Does SureSeal restrict water flow?

  • SureSeal product s are permitted under the national Plumbing Codes for use in any existing installation.

Can I legally specify and install a SureSeal within a jurisdiction where it has not specifically been approved?

  • YES!
  • Every code is required by law to have a section for alternative materials and methods approval. The intent of the Plumbing Codes is for the authority having jurisdiction, or the code official, to accept any engineered design that has been properly justified. There is no opportunity for an inspector to disapprove an engineered design just because they may not like it. If you provide an Engineering Equivalency Report from a Registered Professional Engineer that provides sufficient data to prove equivalency in providing for protection of the public health, safety and welfare and/or establishes that the engineered design meets the intent of the code the inspection department in your jurisdiction cannot turn it down.

I want to use SureSeal in new construction but I am not sure if it is approved in my local area – what should I do?

  • If you would like to use SureSeal's on one or more of your new construction projects and you don't believe that specific approval has been granted in your area, you still have the option of specifying and installing it based on the alternative approval or the engineered design sections of the UPC and the IPC by providing the documentation proving equivalency. SureSeal has an Engineering Equivalency Report available for you to download and use for alternate approval.

I am having trouble with an inspector can someone from SureSeal help me with obtaining an approval?

  • Yes – please call us at 877-201-2663 or 253-564-0624 and we will do our best to assist you.
